Welcome to Canterbury House!
We are a ministry to University of
Michigan students, faculty and staff, sponsored by the Episcopal
Diocese of Michigan.
If you are exploring your faith, creating your ethic, looking for
a safe place to ask hard questions, need a welcoming and open community,
like new and interesting art and music, or are wondering how you
can make a difference in the world, then Canterbury House is ready
for you. The atmosphere is relaxed, the worship is informal and accessible,
and the teapot is on the stove.
On Sunday evenings at 5 p.m. we offer Jazz Masses with internationally
recognized musicians, Taize services (if you don’t know what
that is, come find out!!), and a very different perspective on the
world, followed by lots of wonderful (free!) food. During the week
we offer an open door, a (usually) quiet space, and a listening ear,
as well as discussion groups, Bible studies, and social activities.
We are committed to engagement with all of creation, so here you
will also find social activism on behalf of the poor, the marginalized,
and the oppressed.
Come and be involved, be challenged, be fed, be comforted, or just
be! We are happy to see you.
